The red umbrella makes the open dining deck easy to pick out. Beside it, a gabled roof shelters an outdoor living room; below, a pergola marks another sitting area. Stump's Decks & Porches gives this Pottstown backyard three related destinations rather than one large platform with furniture scattered across it.
The project includes 946 square feet of deck and porch work, according to the builder's record. A gas fireplace anchors the covered area, while the lower stamped-concrete patio has a second fire feature. The different levels allow the household to choose between open sky, a roof and a lighter overhead frame.
A ceiling that changes the room
Pine boards in a warm walnut finish line the cathedral ceiling. The surface gives the covered seating a different character from the open deck beside it. White framing outlines the gable, and a stone-faced fireplace establishes the center of the furniture arrangement.
The decking is Azek Vintage Collection in Coastline, with textured black aluminum railing and horizontal cable infill. The darker rail stays visually lighter than a solid wall, preserving the view across the lawn from the upper level.
Dining beyond the roof
The table sits on the open extension of the deck, shaded by an umbrella rather than by the main structure. That keeps the covered room available for lounge furniture while giving meals a place close to the house.
Below, the pergola encloses a smaller group of seats on the patio. It is connected to the larger project through the stairs and material palette, but the change in elevation gives it a more garden-level experience.
The wide views explain why the arrangement works. Each zone is recognizable from the yard, and each has a reason to be there. The stairs are useful because they link different experiences: dinner above, a sheltered conversation beside the house, and a smaller gathering on the terrace below.
At home
Give a multi-level outdoor space distinct uses at each level so the stairs connect destinations, not just surfaces.
