Stone paving, masonry and painted pergola

Across the water, a pale pergola frames the outdoor kitchen and dining space. Its columns stand clearly against the house and planting, giving the pool a furnished destination at one end. In Fine Earth Landscape's Dahut Residence project, that open structure is as important to the view as the pool itself.

The company's project photographs show three related settings: the water and terrace, a table beneath the pergola, and seating around a stone fireplace. They share materials and planting, but each has a different degree of enclosure.

A room without a solid roof

The pergola marks an outdoor room through repetition. Posts establish the corners, and the beams above cast a pattern across the paving and furniture. The structure is substantial enough to hold the dining area in place visually, yet open enough that the house remains part of the scene.

The kitchen sits within the same frame. From the pool, its counters and equipment read as a working edge behind the dining furniture, rather than as isolated appliances beside the water.

A more enclosed place to sit

The fireplace has a different character. Its tall stone face rises behind the seating, with narrow evergreens strengthening the sense of an outdoor room. Red cushions bring a concentrated area of color to a composition otherwise dominated by stone, pale framing and green foliage.

The contrast between the two spaces gives the terrace variety. Dining is light and open overhead; fireside seating has a more solid backdrop. Neither needs to be far from the pool to feel like a separate destination.

The useful detail is the way each area gets its own center. The pool supplies the long view, the table organizes meals, and the hearth gathers chairs. A shared terrace can accommodate all three when the furnishings and structures make their relationships clear.

At home

An open overhead frame can define a furnished room while keeping a view through to the house and garden.
