The green lines are what make this poolside setting distinctive. They run between broad, pale paving panels, tracing a pattern around the water and extending toward the sheltered edge of the yard. Claffey Pools calls the project The Covered Cove.
The pool itself is compact and rectilinear, with a raised spa at one end. The surrounding surfaces give it a larger visual setting. Instead of a continuous pale slab, the terrace is divided into clearly legible pieces, with the green joints carrying the eye across the ground.
Drawing around the water
The paving pattern reinforces the pool's straight edges, but it does not simply repeat them as a narrow border. Some lines continue outward toward the building and perimeter, connecting the water to the rest of the terrace.
That makes the ground plane unusually important to the composition. Furniture can change, but the relationship between the pool, the sheltered area and the open terrace remains visible in the paving itself.
A compact center
The raised spa gives one end of the water a stronger edge. The planting beyond is comparatively simple, allowing the pool and terrace geometry to remain the main event. Trees rise above the boundary, providing a softer outline against the sky.
The useful idea is not that every pool needs patterned joints. It is that the surround can establish the setting without relying on many additional features. Here, a few repeated lines make the compact water area feel deliberately placed within the yard, with room around it for everyday movement and gathering.
At home
The spaces between paving panels can organize the view just as strongly as the panels themselves.
